“You shall love Adonai your God with all you heart, with all your soul and with all your abundance.”
Temple Isaiah’s vision is to inspire and engage, looking to Jewish text and tradition as a source of guidance in our everyday lives. Tzedakah is one of those great Jewish principles that calls on individuals to share their “abundance” with the community. Such giving, the sages tell us, opens the door to a richer and more meaningful life.
Consider the V’havta prayer, which we say after the Sh’ma. It is commonly translated to end with the words “all your might.” But tradition tells us that the meaning here is not limited to physical strength, but includes the concept of wealth or material possessions.
Giving at Temple Isaiah takes many forms, from major endowment gifts that have provided the congregation with a richer vision of the future to smaller donations that personally honor people, accomplishments and simchas. We view each gift as a blessing that allows us to support our congregation, our community and ultimately to repair the world.
